6. Culture

Accompanying improvements in living standards is an increase in appreciation for fine arts and culture. The Aichi Prefectural Board of Education is involved with this interest in cultural matters on various fronts, from the holding of cultural activities for children and the support of cultural organizations to the careful protection of valuable cultural properties which have been passed down from our ancestors.

The Board designates cultural properties, offers financial assistance when restoration of designated cultural properties is necessary, and protects these cultural properties, which hold immeasurable value from historical, artistic, and academic viewpoints. In Aichi Prefecture, there are numerous designated cultural properties, including the designated national treasure Inuyama Castle. The photograph shows Konren Temple (Kira-cho,Nishio City), a national treasure. It is the oldest temple in Aichi and still remains as it was originally built in the 13th century.
