About Aichi Kaisho Forest Center

Objectives of establishment

Kaisho Forest is the continuous forest located near City of Nagoya. It includes agricultural fields, wetlands, etc. Northern goshawk and Star magnolia are the unique species that represent the abundance of the nature.

The Aichi International Exposition 2005 Japan was originally planned to take place in Kaisho Forest. Instead, small area was exploit to make “Seto-Aichi pavilion” of the Expo and rest of the forest was conserved for the future as a memorial forest. Seto-Aichi pavilion was renovated and opened as “Aichi Kaisho Forest Center” in fall 2006.

This Center was established for the purpose of succeeding the accomplishment and concept, i.e., “Nature’s Wisdom”, of the Expo. It is a place to explore the relationship between nature and human beings. Aichi Kaisho Forest Center provides educational activities related to forest and environment.

Directions

(1) 25-minutes walk from Yamaguchi Station on the Aichi Loop Line

Take Route155 (National Highway) south to Otsubo-cho intersection, and turn left to 2nd signal. Then turn right and after 10-minutes walk, you’ll see Aichi Kaisho Forest Center on your right.

(2) 30-minutes walk from Yakusa Station on the Linimo Line and the Aichi Loop Line

Take Route155 north (2-minutes walk), turn right at the 1st signal, and walk for 5 minutes. Then turn left at Yakusa-Raijo intersection, and walk for 10 minutes till the end. Turn left and walk for 10 minutes over the hill, then turn right at the intersection. After 3-minutes walk, you’ll see Aichi Kaisho Forest Center on your right.

Major facilities

Main building (exhibition room, information library, handcrafts room, and meeting room): Three-story building with a gross floor area of 1,546 square meters

Walking facilities (Cocoon Square, Kiln Historical Museum, and Watching Hill)

Opening hours

9:00 - 17:00 (9:30 - 16:30 for the Walking facilities)

Closed on every Monday (Tuesday when Monday falls on national holiday) as well as during the New Year holidays (December 29 - January 3)

Walk Etiquette

Please follow these rules and other proper etiquette so that everyone can enjoy Kaisho forest. Also, we ask for your cooperation in helping to conserve the natural environment.

  • Those arriving by car must leave their vehicles in the parking lot.
  • Cars, motorcycles and bicycles can only be used on the city roads.
  • Do not disturb the residents.
  • Do not enter wetlands or woods coming off from route on the map.
  • Do not catch animals or pick plants.
  • Do not introduce outside plants and animals to the forest.
  • Do not frighten the animals.
  • Pets are not allowed in the forest.
  • Take your garbage with you.
  • The use of fire in any form is strictly prohibited.
  • Camping and barbeques are prohibited.
  • Be aware that toilets are not provided along walking path. (Toilets are available at parking at the entrance and at the SATOYAMA Satellite.)
  • Bring enough food and liquid (water fountains are not provided).
  • Do not disturb other walkers.
  • Illegal dumping and unauthorized thinning are strictly prohibited.
  • The parking lot cannot be used at night.
