Museum Facilities

On the grounds of the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum, in addition to two exhibition halls, there is also a pottery museum where even beginners can easily experience pottery making, where you can enjoy a day of viewing and making pottery.

Main Gallery

The Main Gallery is a venue for permanent exhibitions covering the history of Japanese ceramics from the Jomon period to the present, non-Japanese ceramics, contemporary ceramics, and archives of ceramics produced at ancient kilns across Japan, as well as for temporary exhibitions focused on a variety of themes.

One of the rooms normally used for temporary, special, and thematic exhibitions is available for rent by the public. For details, see the “Group Visits” section.

Ceramic Craft Studio

Visitors can experience pottery-making and ceramic painting guided by instructors (no reservation required). These activities are easy to do and open to all ages ー from children to the elderly.
The Museum also welcomes group visits (reservation required) and offers ceramics classes and other events. For details, see the “Pottery-making Experience” section.

Reminiscences of the Kilns I and II

Ancient kilns (dated 12 C. CE - 13 C. CE [the Heian to Kamakura periods]) excavated on the premises are on display.

Kilns Plaza (Reproductions of ancient kilns)

This area has reproductions of ogama (large tunnel kilns) used in the Muromachi period (16 C. CE) in Seto and Mino, and noborigama (climbing kilns) of the Edo period (19 C. CE)
