Information for Foreign Residents Wishing to Take Entrance Examinations to Public High Schools in Aichi Prefecture

If you are a foreign resident who graduated (or is expected to graduate at the end of the fiscal year) from a junior high school in Japan
(1) How to apply

If you graduated (or are expected to graduate) from a junior high school in Aichi Prefecture, please contact the junior high school you graduated from (or you are enrolled in) for details on how to apply. Your junior high school will have the required application forms, etc. If you graduated from a junior high school outside Aichi Prefecture, please contact Upper Secondary Education Division, Aichi Prefectural Board of Education (052-954-6786).

(2) Selection examinations for students of foreign nationalities and returnees from China (held starting with the 2009 entrance exams)

Selection exams for students of foreign nationalities are held at Nagoya-Minami Prefectural High School of Aichi (general education program), Komaki Prefectural High School of Aichi (general education program), Koromodai Prefectural High School of Aichi (general education program), and Toyohashi-Nishi Prefectural High School of Aichi (general education program). Students of foreign nationalities who have graduated (or are expected to graduate) from a junior high school and were admitted to elementary school in the 4th grade or later, or in grades 1–3 under special circumstances, are eligible to apply for the selection examinations. If you are a foreign resident who graduated from a junior high school in a foreign country
(1) How to apply

Students who have completed their ninth-year courses at a regular school in a foreign country are eligible to apply. For confirmation, applicants are required to bring documents that include a transcript of their school records (showing that the applicant completed his ninth-year courses), which will be screened by the Upper Secondary Education Division, Aichi Prefectural Board of Education in advance to confirm eligibility to make an application. If the screening process finds that the student is eligible to take an examination, the student can take an entrance examination at any of the public high schools in Aichi Prefecture. After a student's qualifications for application have been confirmed, the student will be issued a ""Certificate of Qualification for Application"", which must be submitted along with the application form when applying.

The screening process may take about one week, so applicants are advised to go through the screening process as early as possible (well before the deadline for applications). The required application forms, etc. are available from the Upper Secondary Education Division, Aichi Prefectural Board of Education after the end of November.

If you are a foreign resident who has been living in Japan after graduating from a junior high school in a foreign country, and wish to take an entrance examination of a public high school in Aichi Prefecture, you will be interviewed about the status of learning Japanese, eligibility to apply, and academic motivation after admission. If you wish to take an entrance examination of a public high school in Aichi Prefecture, please contact the Upper Secondary Education Division, Aichi Prefectural Board of Education as early as possible.

Please note that academic achievement tests in selection examinations, interviews, and classes at high schools are all held in Japanese.

Regarding the Range of Questions Covered by the Academic Achievement Test Portion of Entrance Examinations from 2010 Onward

During the transition period for the new junior high school study guidelines (April 1, 2009, to March 31, 2012), the range of questions covered by entrance exams will include new study material, and guidance will be included.

The questions on the spring 2010 entrance exam will include knowledge covered by teaching support materials for the sciences. Copies of support materials for the corresponding sections (materials used primarily by junior high school student in Aichi) will be sent to applicants along with the required application paperwork. This will also apply to sciences and math for entrance exams from 2011 through spring, 2014.
